Sono state queste le prime parole che ho scritto nel mio stato su Goodreads quando ho iniziato a leggere questa piccola gemma preziosa. Vedevo spessissimo questo libro sul Bookstagram, ma nonostante la cover contenesse la mia color palette preferita (ossia colori sui toni del rosa e del viola), non andavo mai a informarmi meglio sulla trama e sui trope. Finché non sono incappata nella recensione di @reader.riss, che mi ha convinta ad acquistarlo!

Mi sono innamorata di Tessa e Corrick in un attimo 💖 Io sono una grande appassionata di Robin Hood, perciò mi è bastato leggere l'incipit per essere presa al lazo, sul serio. Lei è una fuorilegge che tenta di salvare quante più persone possibili che, essendo povere, non possono permettersi di comprare i petali del Moonflower per curare la febbre che sta decimando il regno di Kandala. E lui è il fratello del re, ed è anche il King's Justice, ovvero colui che si sporca le mani per punire chi osa rubare e contrabbandare i petali di Moonflower.
Wes catches my arm and turns me around.
I suck in a breath, but he puts his hands on my cheecks to lean in close, and I all but melt in a puddle on the floor. My back hits the wall of the workshop, and my head spins.
Then Wes's mouth hovers above mine, and I lose all rational though. His thumb traces my lower lip.
"Not never, Tessa," he says, and his voice is so rich and deep that he could be speaking straight to my heart. "But not like this."
Non vi dico nulla riguardo la trama perché voglio che rimaniate con il fiato sospeso dall'inizio alla fine, proprio come è successo a me!
Vi voglio parlare invece un po' di Tessa e Corrick, gli amorini miei 😍 Con questi due siamo di fronte a un enemies to reluctant allies to lovers, che è probabilmente la mia dinamica preferita del classico enemies to lovers.
I spit in his direction. I mean for my voice to be strong, but it sounds broken and weak. "I hate you."
"Everybody does," he says.
La tensione che si respira tra di loro è infuocata 🔥 In principio è una lotta di corpi, di tessuti che si stracciano per la foga e rivelano invitanti parti del corpo di Tessa mentre Corrick tenta di bloccarla con il proprio peso; poi si trasforma in una guerra di sguardi colmi di rancore e sofferenza.
I close my fingers around the glass and breathe. I want to throw it at him.
As if he can read my thoughts, he says, "If you throw it at me, I'll cut your hands off."
Defy the Night di Brigid Kemmerer mi ha catturata dall'inizio alla fine! La scrittura semplice, rapida e avvincente dell'autrice mi ha permesso di immergermi completamente in questa storia ricca di azione, pericoli, amore, tradimenti, cospirazioni e lealtà 😍 Super consigliato! Non vedo l'ora di prendere il secondo volume e proseguire con la lettura per scoprire cosa attende Tessa e Corrick.
