Non so davvero come incominciare a parlarvi di questa meraviglia! Non so proprio come spiegare quello che mi è successo non appena ho aperto questo libro 🙈 Anni e anni fa, mi è capitato di essere ossessionata da alcuni dei protagonisti maschili dei romanzi che leggevo. Ma poi, crescendo, ho imparato a mantenere un sano distacco 🤣
Ebbene, con Jacks sono ricaduta nel tunnel dell'ossessione 😍
"Do you kiss the prince because you actually enjoy it?" Jacks asked. "Or is it because you honestly think it will magically revive him?"
"Maybe I do it because I know it will annoy you," Evangeline answered archly.
Jacks flashed a smile that was far more wicked than welcoming. "Glad to know you're thinking about me when you kiss your husband."
Heat flushed her cheeks. "I'm not thinking nice things."
"Even better."
Onestamente, quando ho iniziato a leggere, ero un po' preoccupata, perché ero incappata in alcuni commenti che pregavano l'autrice di darci del vero e proprio romance nel terzo e conclusivo libro. Al che, il mio primo pensiero è stato: oh no, quindi vuol dire che c'è poco Jacks in questo volume 😩 Raga... neanche per sogno! 😁 In più, quello che la bravissimissima Stephanie sta tessendo tra Jacks e Evangeline, per me, è romance al 101% 😍
"Don't pretend you'd never hurt me in order to manipulate me. You just said that if I didn't agree to open your Valory Arch, I'd really start to hate you."
"I hurt everyone, Little Fox. But you have to be alive to hate me." His eyes iced over. "I do not want you dead, and I'll kill anyone who tries."
La tensione sessuale tra Jacks e Evangeline è alle stelle! 🔥 E io vivo per questo! Il trope del betrayal è vivissimo tra i due, dopo la scoperta di Evangeline alla fine del primo libro, e io sono veramente andata in brodo di giuggiole 😌

Voglio dichiarare una cosa, e lo voglio fare urlando: JACKS IS THE KING OF MORALLY GREY. Punto e basta. È così. Jacks, the Prince of Hearts, ha portato la definizione di morally grey character su tutto un altro livello. Il suo. Ed è ineguagliabile.
"You talk in your sleep," he drawled. "You said my name—a lot."
Evangeline felt a rush of heat crawl up her neck. "Obviously, I was having a nightmare."
"It didn't look that way to me, Little Fox, and I was here all night."
In questo secondo volume, la possessività di Jacks raggiunge picchi da far arricciare gli alluci! E non solo questo... Anche la sua gelosia diventa mooolto più evidente 😏 Ma non bisogna mai dimenticarsi che Jacks è così infido che perfino un semplice sfioramento può nascondere un secondo fine...
"Tonight you saved me."
"No, I stopped you from dying. That's not the same thing." Jacks pulled away and abruptly left.
«Quindi la corazza di Jacks non cede nemmeno un pochino, in questo libro?», vi starete chiedendo. Oh, cari lettori... Cede. Eccome se cede! 💔 Cede in un modo che non mi sarei mai aspettata, e il mio cuore si è stretto per questo giovane dagli occhi di ghiaccio e l'atteggiamento duro come l'acciaio, ma capace di proteggere con ogni mezzo la sua Evangeline.
"Do you still think of me as just a tool?"
Jacks frowned. "I try not to think of you at all."
Un'altra cosa che sicuramente vi starete domandando è: «Ma anche in questo volume c'è la stessa sensualità del primo?» Ehm ehmmm!!! Di più, ragazze, di più! 🔥 Vi dico solo che c'è una scena in cui Jacks le infila una mano sotto la gonna, sulla coscia... e, suvvia, non ci vuole un genio per capire cosa faccia con quelle dita laggiù 👀
"Sorry to break your fairytale, Little Fox, but ballads don't end happily, and neither do the two of us."
Soltanto che Jacks ha il potere di mandarti a fuoco un attimo prima e congelarti l'istante dopo, rammentandoti con molta perfidia che non è umano, che per lui conta solo raggiungere il suo obiettivo. Ma qual è davvero?
"Every girl I've kissed has died, except for one. And you are not that girl."
Ancora una volta Stephanie Garber mi ha incantata con la sua scrittura e con questa storia, talmente coinvolgente e misteriosa e magica e ricca di colpi di scena che non riuscivo a staccarmi dalle pagine! 😍 Evangeline e Jacks, oltre a essere super sensuali e tormentati, incarnano alla perfezione i trope che più amo, tra cui l'enemies to reluctant allies to lovers 💖🔝
Ora non ci resta che attendere il terzo e ultimo libro!
E sento già odore di 6 stelline da parte mia...
